The Experience

I had the chance to work on different projects. These projects ranged from enhancing the current look and feel of the Eloquence product line to conducting interviews with Stakeholders and integrating the findings in the future releases of the product. My Cincom Systems design process involved end-to-end design, from requirements gathering to designing the product.

The Learnings

I had the chance to tackle exciting problems that tested multiple skills. By far, the skill I improved the most was my cross-team collaboration and communication. While the role required me to work hand in hand with the UX team, I got to work with PMs, designers, and engineers. I also interacted with end stakeholders while conducting user interviews. I learned user-centered design principles within an iterative product development process through user research, data synthesis, rapid prototyping, and high-fidelity designs.

Work with a highly collaborative cross-functional team
Hands-on experience in how UX works in an agile environment
Understanding of user research methods to refine ideas and build better products

The Fun Stuff

Not only did we work hard, but we also played harder. We had an International Monster Hunter conducted by teambuilding.com across the company, where we played as sleuths to follow clues, answer trivia, and work together to track and trap monsters and strange creatures from all over the world. We had a few “show and tell” sessions amongst the UX team that were fun and interesting (My manager, Aaron, had some really cool things to show and talk about!). I formed close bonds with the people and built relationships full of trust, fun laughter. More than anything, I’m going to remember those moments the most because they made me feel so much closer to the team.

The Impact

Even though my 12 weeks on internship came to an end sooner than I anticipated, I was involved in various activities that I believe had an overall impact on the product’s future. Some of them are as follow:
The User Interface of the Eloquence product looks consistent with other Cincom products.

Insights from the user interviews helped create a significant functionality that would be added when the product migrates to the cloud.

Created a cleaner workflow for the Eloquence Administrator to get the tasks done quicker and more efficiently.
